FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE A Note From Your ProviderIt is truly hard to believe that it is summer already. The heat is on, literally. Our grade school children have been out nearly two months now, but they are keeping quite busy helping out with our daily routine. Our two infants that came last summer have now celebrated one year with our little family!!! Several of our toddlers have reached the next level by becoming potty trained. Some have even turned three years old. We have had a busy spring and summer so far. Soon we will be preparing our grade school children to return to school. They are looking forward to starting first grade. They have been reading to our preschoolers for practice. Don't forget if you are a client of Kiddy Korner you can get on our Yahoo group to get articles, find out what is happening in the area for families, and download pics. I will be providing a newsletter this year and a copy of our menu will also be posted. I got the feedback that these things would be appreciated. Trike-A-Thon Raises Money for St. Jude April 10, 2010 Kiddy Korner Family Daycare of Gold Canyon recently sponsored its 4th annual Trike-A-Thon and raised $700 for the benefit of St Jude Children's Hospital. The children who participated in the event spent a week learning about bike and trike safety. At the end of the week children rode their trikes and bikes and demonstrated the safety rules they had learned. Parents turned in donations they had collected from sponsors of their children. (See photo of participants on Photo page) News ArchiveMeet Kiddy Korner at the Marketplace October 2009 was the start of the Marketplace in Gold Canyon. It is a small venue located in the Prudential parking lot (behind Walgreens) every other Saturday from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Local businesses provide information on services and products available to residents of Gold Canyon. It is a great way to check out some of the home businesses here, and to shop local. Kiddy Korner 3rd Annual Trike-A-Thon a SuccessThis year was the third year that Kiddy Korner and its families worked together to earn money for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Several businesses also contributed gift certificates for the raffle that was held by Kiddy Korner at the United Methodist Church's 1st Annual Family Fun Day. The total amount earned this year was $1000.00. We reached our goal again! A huge thank you to everyone that helped out. And thank you to the children for all their hard work riding around the track!!! The 4th annual Trike-A-Thon will be held on Saturday April 17, 2010. We will again coordinate with the Gold Canyon United Methodist Church to have it prior to their Family Fun event. Hope to see you there. If you would like to help out with this great cause in any way, contact Melissa Komen. Kiddy Korner Accepts New Forms Of PaymentWe may be small in size but we are thinking big. Since writing checks is becoming a rare form of payment, we are now offering the convenience of payment in several other forms. Beginning April 2009 we can accept VISA, MASTERCARD Debit cards, electronic checks and automatic recurring payments. 2nd Annual Fire Prevention Day Held in Gold CanyonThis was a fun event for the whole family. The Apache Junction Fire District sponsored the event along with many businesses from Gold Canyon and Apache Junction. There was a bounce house, free food, fire truck demonstrations and plenty of prizes for the kids. This was our first year to have a booth at the event. We gave out prizes and had pictures to color from our Fire Prevention Lesson. We met a lot of kids and their families. Thank you to everyone who came out for the day. Can't wait until next year! New Market Place in Gold CanyonOctober 4, 2008 was the first of the up coming Market Days. We decided to take part by having a booth at this event. This event is for businesses in the Gold Canyon area. There are items/products for sale and businesses are there to inform the community of the services they provide. We had a good turn out for the first time. The Market Day will run again 10/18 and then every other Saturday through March 2009. Kiddy Korner celebrates its 10th year in business!!My first child was born July 19, 1997. I went back to work like many women do. One day as I sat at my desk, staring at another insurance policy, I had an epiphany! Years ago when I started college I was an education major. Why don't I take my passion for teaching others (I hired and trained new staff) and use it where I wanted to, with children. So I took a small idea at my desk and took the risk to start my own business. I ran an ad to check on response from my area in Illinois. With a two week ad I received 26 calls; 14 for children under two years old. Like everything else I have done in the past I couldn't do it small. I knew I needed help to fulfill the needs of my community. I started out with only two children besides my son and asked a friend from college if she was interested in working with me. She did for the first six months while I got my business off the ground. After the first year I also decided to go back to college and finish what I had started. I had a full license capacity within two months of my April start date and continued to be full until September 11, 2001. I had a smaller group then, but continued by myself until I moved here to Arizona in July 2004. I had another child by then so I took time off until I started Kiddy Korner of Gold Canyon, Arizona in April 2005. You often hear businesses say "We had very humble beginnings", and I will be one to repeat the phrase. Humble meaning small and inexperienced. With many bumps along the way, personal and professional, I continue to enjoy what I do. I am currently looking into the venture of opening a center. I strive to provide personalized care and education for all the children in my care. I promise to continue to do so as long as the children will allow me to, lol. Melissa K. Komen, owner Trike-a-Thon held in Gold CanyonApache Junction Independent May 13, 2008 Kiddy Korner Family Daycare sponsored the Second Annual Trike-a-Thon to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital April 19 in Gold Canyon. The fun event honored a group of children who worked hard learning bike safety and earned money for kids in need. Kiddy Korner Family Daycare also celebrated its 10th anniversary with a Gold Canyon Business Association ribbon-cutting ceremony on the same day. Participating in the event were Matt Ruppert (president of GCBA), Devin Komen, Melissa Komen, Ashlyn Janecek, Quinn Antonio, Gini Smalley, Logan Francois and Tim Pettygrew (Secretary of GCBA). This was our second annual event. We had fewer participants, but with the help of the business community we had another successful day. The final total was $1,100.00!!!!! We are proud to say that we were within our goal! Next year we plan to hold our 3rd Annual Trike-A-Thon on Saturday, April 18, 2009. Stay tuned for details later in the year!
